If you’re thinking about making changes to your heating and cooling equipment in 2016, there are a couple of great ductless rebates you should consider. The MassSave program (formerly known as CoolSmart) is offering ductless rebates of between $250 and $500 on ductless mini-split systems in 2016. This is a great rebate opportunity because it directly lowers the cost of installing a ductless system in your home. Qualifying models for the $250 rebate include those with an 8 SEER, 9 HSPF rating. Qualifying models for the $500 rebate include those with a 20 SEER, 11 HSPF rating. Mitsubishi has a number of models that fit this bill. In addition, the 2016 MassSave ductless rebates are now easier to claim, with a simple, one-page rebate application.

Ductless rebates aren’t the only way to save!

If you operate a commercial space, you may also be able to take advantage of newly renewed energy efficiency tax credits through the federal government. These credits are available through December 31, 2016 (and are retroactively available to January 1, 2015) for businesses and vary based on measured energy efficiency. A tax deduction of $1.80 per square foot is available to owners of new or existing buildings who install heating, cooling, ventilation, or hot water systems that reduce the building’s total energy and power cost by 50% or more in comparison to a building meeting minimum requirements set by ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2001.

Deductions of $0.60 per square foot are available to owners of buildings in which individual heating and cooling systems meet target levels that would reasonably contribute to an overall building savings of 50% if additional systems were installed.

These options don’t include the operational savings you’ll see by moving to a ductless system for either primary or supplementary heating and cooling.
