There are many benefits of installing a ductless AC system, including the ability to save a lot of time.

When compared to the installation of central air, here’s why a ductless system is the way to go:

  • It can be installed in one day
  • You don’t have to cause damage to your home to run ductwork
  • Since the installation is faster and easier, it also costs less

The question of whether or not a ductless AC system is easy to install depends on your definition of easy. For example, if you have no experience with these systems, it’s not easy to take on this project.

Conversely, if you’ve installed a ductless AC system in the past, you may have the know-how and tools to do so again in the future.

It doesn’t matter if you’re doing it yourself or hiring a professional, here are the steps associated with installing ductless AC:

1. Choose a System

Before you can do anything, you need to choose a system that works for your space and budget. For example, compare the pros and cons of multi-zone mini splits and dual-zone mini splits.

From there, keep in mind that many companies manufacturer these systems, with Mitsubishi among the best and most popular.

Don’t rush this decision, as doing so could result in a mistake that costs you time and money in the future.

2. Install the Indoor Unit (or Units)

Once you have your system, the next step is installing the indoor unit(s). This consists of:

  • Laying out all the parts
  • Choosing the best location for your indoor wall unit(s)
  • Installing the bracket to hold the unit
  • Drilling a hole in the wall for your drain tubing, refrigerant lines, and wires that will run to your outdoor unit
  • Connecting the control wire to your unit(s)
  • Installing the unit on the mount and securing it

3. Install the Outdoor Unit

Regardless of how many indoor units you have, you’re likely to only have one outdoor unit. There are three basic steps associated with this part of the installation process:

  • Choose a location, such as a concrete pad next to your home or your rooftop
  • Connect all the pipes, tubing, and wires running to the outdoor unit from the indoor unit(s)
  • Attach the tubing and wires to a nearby wall to keep them from coming loose

While these are the basics steps associated with installing a ductless AC system, you’re likely to run into others along the way. And if you don’t have much experience, you could come face to face with a few challenges and problems that require troubleshooting.
