There is no denying the many benefits of installing a ductless cooling system. They’re efficient, easy to install, and affordable when compared to other options, such as the installation of central air.

But just the same as any HVAC system, there are problems that can pop up from time to time. Fortunately, these are typically minimal, especially if you choose a system manufactured by a reputable brand.

Furthermore, if you stay current with maintenance, there’s a better chance of your ductless cooling system lasting for many years (sometimes 25 or more).

With all that in mind, it’s still a good idea to have an understanding of the most common concerns with ductless cooling systems. Here are some things to keep an eye on:

1. Compressor

Just the same as central air, ductless cooling systems have a compressor inside the outdoor condenser unit. While it’s not easily accessible for inspection, it’s one of the most important components of your system.

The compressor is responsible for pressurizing the refrigerant, which ensures that cool air reaches every room in your home.

However, if something goes wrong, your compressor may stop working, thus resulting in warm air being blow into your home – and that’s not what you want.

2. Indoor Blower

Most homes with a ductless cooling system have multiple indoor blowers. These are responsible for pushing air into the room.

From the outside, these blowers are unassuming. However, as you learn more about them, you’ll find that there are many things that could go wrong. For example, if the fan stops working, you’ll need to replace it before you can once again get cool air to the room.

Conversely, there are some issues that are minor, such as a clogged air filter in the blower. A simple change to a new filter may be all you need to get back on track.

3. Condensate Drain or Refrigerant Line

The outdoor unit and all the indoor blowers are connected via a conduit that houses a condensate drain line, refrigerant line, and power cord.

Over time, these lines have the potential to clog and/or leak. Either way, it can affect the ability of your system to provide cool air in an efficient manner. And in the event of a leak, it can result in damage to your home.

Even if your system is new, it’s common to have concerns about these issues. And that’s why you should implement a maintenance schedule that allows you to pinpoint potential concerns and deal with them in a timely manner.
