What is the goal of HeatSmart/CoolSmart, and who is organizing it?
HeatSmart/CoolSmart is a program supported by the City of Somerville that seeks to help Somerville residents and businesses be smarter about heating and cooling their buildings. That means replacing old fossil fuel-based boilers and furnaces and old, noisy window air conditioning units with high-efficiency air source heat pumps that can not only save you money, but also improve the comfort of your home year round while reducing your carbon footprint.
The state utility program, Mass Save, also offers hundreds of dollars of rebates for heat pumps as well as 0% interest financing through the HEAT Loan Program.
The City of Somerville offers 0% interest, deferred payment loans to Somerville property owners earning less than 80% area median income. These loans can cover a wide range of repairs and improvements, including air source heat pumps. For income requirements, visit somervillema.gov/lead or call 617-625-6600 ext. 2569.
How does HeatSmart/CoolSmart work?
HeatSmart/CoolSmart is a simple way for homeowners to purchase air source heat pumps (heat pumps) at a discounted price from a qualified installer. The process is straightforward and follows these basic steps:
2. We will give you a call within a business day to ask you some questions and schedule a no-cost, no obligation site visit at your convenience. If you have any other questions about the program, you can also get in touch with Molly, the HeatSmart/CoolSmart Coach, at email@example.com.
3. We will visit your home, determine whether a heat pump is right for your building, and discuss your options. After completing their visit and working with you to identify the best option for your home, they’ll present you with a quote on-site or within a couple of days. If you’re ready to proceed, you can schedule your installation right away.
4. We will complete your installation within 2-4 weeks, and you’ll be ready to Heat and Cool Smart!
